Electric massage table review – for ultimate comfort of your clients

For reiki healers, the comfort of your client during the session is top priority. Moreover, the healers’ comfort is just as important, as you (as a healer) could be sitting in a same position for as long as 90 minutes.

As I’ve written in my previous massage table review, in the traditional Japanese reiki, healing was given lying on futon or zabuton (read my post on useful reiki tools here) on the floor and that is what I use when I’m in Japan.

However, massage tables are normally used in the West, and these tables should be very sturdy, considering large clients. Portable tables tend to be light-weight for obvious reasons and may lack the sturdiness compared to electric ones.

4 things you should consider when choosing your own electric massage table

  1. Width of the table – wider the table, more comfortable your client will be. But this also means you would need to stretch your arm if you are sitting beside the table.
  2. Leg room below the table – as reiki healers usually sit on a chair during the session, there should be enough leg room below the table, otherwise you will be leaving forward in a uncomfortable position for as long as 90 minutes, depending on the session.
  3. Separate headrest – a separate headrest with sufficient cushion is far better than a table with a face hole. I have tried both myself, and unless there is additional cushion, the “table with a hole” is not so comfy.
  4. Sound of the motor – nowadays, most electric massage tables come with quiet motor, but before choosing one, it’s good to check other people’s reviews, especially if you are sensitive to sound.

Earthlite Body Worker’s Choice Massage Table Warmer, 71 x 29.5-Inch, White

There is nothing better than lying down on a warm massage table on a cold winter day, and the massage table warmer will do just that.

A word of caution: during a reiki session, some clients bodies become warm when the energy starts flowing and you need to keep an eye on the body temperature, as being too warm can be uncomfortable.

Earthlite massage tables are rated much higher than others, such as Sierra Comfort. My only reservation for Sierra Comfort is that the legs cross on either edges of the table (see photos above), and it may not be comfortable to sit beside the table.

However, I’ve included my reviews on Sierra Comfort massage tables, as they are much more reasonable in price compared to Earthlite, and they have received good reviews on Amazon.com.

  1. I’ve always thought that massage tables are just these simple and cheap tables that have no special design whatsoever. But now I realise that there’s actually much more to them.

From the way I see it, they all look very comfy to me. I guess choosing a suitable table really depends on the needs of the therapist rather than the needs of the customer. Just curious, how long can a table last for on average, before it shows signs of wear?

    Great review!

    • Hi Farhan

Thank you for your comment. I guess massage tables are kind of like furniture that they have different designs, functions and quality. The durability and the life of massage table would depend on how one uses it. I think massage therapists would need to apply pressure during the sessions, while reiki sessions are much more gentle so the tables probably would not wear out as much. Having said, I have been reading a lot of comments by users of the tables I have reviewed, and many have said they’ve used previous models for 10, 12 and even 15 years, so they are good investments and they last for a long time.
